Post date: Mar 28, 2013 9:15:09 PM

Abbeyleix Bog has been selected as one of 6 sites nationally to roll out the Bioblitz challenge -it will take place on 8th June 2013. To facilitate these events, the National National Biodiversity Centre will provide an on-line, state-of-the-art record management system to assist management of the species records and tallies on the day as well as hard copy recording forms and species lists, and training in how to organise a BioBlitz. Ireland’s BioBlitz brings together scientists, recorders and the public in a race against time to see how many species can be recorded in a 24-hour survey.

Full detail of the initiative can be seen here: http://bioblitz.biodiversityireland.ie/local-bioblitz-challenge/

So, polish your wellies, sharpen the pencil, clean the binoculars, dust-off the reference books - we are going to see how many species of animals, insects, plants, trees, etc. we can record in one day!
