Laois photography tutor Alan Keogh, of the Happy Snappers Camera Club, commences a series of one day photography classes at Abbeyleix on Sunday 4th July. Suitable for anyone with a camera and an interest in improving their skill, the day will incorporate the delightful sensory gardens, an Abbeyleix bogland walk and delicious lunch in Cafe Odhran.

The art of photographing flowers is the theme of the first day which commences at 10am with a two hour tutorial on macro & landscape photography. The classroom tuition is suitable for small digital and SLR camera users of all levels and will be followed by one hour of guided practical photography at the beautiful Abbeyleix SCJMS sensory gardens.

After lunch in Cafe Odhran the group will proceed on a guided walk through the Abbeyleix bog photographing the unique flowers. In addition to extensive flora this bogland is also home to a number of butterfly species including the painted lady and marsh fritillary.

Following the two hour walk the group return to the Heritage Centre for feedback and analysis sessions on the photos taken on the day.

More photography walks & talks are planned throughout the summer including Sports Photography at Cosby Hall, Stradbally and a canal bank walk from Vicarstown to Fisherstown.
